Hiking Trails Near
Marmora Retreat Ontario

It’s hard to think straight in the city anymore, isn’t it? Between the endless hum of traffic, glowing screens, and constant notifications, silence feels like a luxury. Out here in Marmora, the loudest thing you’ll hear is the crunch of your boots on the Hastings Heritage Trail, or the rush of Callaghan’s Rapids after a good rain.

Marmora Retreat isn’t just a place to stay – it’s your starting point for exploring. Set on 24 acres where the Crowe River winds through Hastings County, we’re only two hours from Toronto, yet it feels worlds away. Take a quiet walk on our trails in the morning, then chat with Sebastian, our groundskeeper and local trail expert. He’ll point you toward the best conservation areas based on what you’re after – waterfalls, forest shade, or open riverside walks. When you’re back, soak in the cedar hot tub and feel your shoulders finally relax.

Hastings Heritage Trail Access Points Near Marmora

Skiing & Snowshoeing on Hastings Heritage Trail

Winter transforms the Hastings Heritage Trail into cross-country skiing and snowshoeing territory. The level rail-trail surface means you're not fighting elevation changes, just gliding through snow-covered wetlands and forests. Snowmobile traffic shares some sections, but there's plenty of quiet stretches.

We keep snowshoes at the retreat (included with your stay) and can point you to the best access points depending on recent snow conditions. After a winter hike, the cedar sauna and cold plunge hit differently.

The Hastings Heritage Trail stretches 156 kilometers from Quinte West to Lake St. Peter Provincial Park. Once a railway line, it’s now a wide, level path that’s perfect for casual walkers, cyclists, or anyone who wants distance without constant climbs and roots.

From Marmora Retreat, several access points are just minutes away. The Station Road to Malone Road section runs 9 kilometres through wetlands, across two old bridges, and past a waterfall you’ll hear before you see. In spring, the chorus of wood frogs is nature’s version of rush hour.

Trail Highlights:

  • Level, wide paths suitable for all fitness levels

  • Wetland ecosystems (waterproof boots recommended in spring)

  • Two heritage bridges with open water views

  • Open year-round for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing

  • Dog-friendly (leash up near wetlands)
